I had promised last year to tell a teacher called Samuel about how to develop web pages, and he reminded me of that promise this year. After giving it some thought, I decided to put together a course about Google Blogger, which is a system for building and hosting blogs. I had four participants: two teachers, Samuel and Andrew; and two journalists, Stephen and Patrick.
The part about Google Blogger covered setting up a Google account, creating a blog and its URL in the form XXX.blogspot.com, and how to create posts. We looked at importing photos from your phone, or from the laptop, and positioning, sizing, and captioning them. I had prepared a few slides, but the course was practical. The participants all created their own blogs, such as the one by Stephen from Omono TV which I'm happy to see he is continuing to maintain.
The most appealing aspect of blogs is the social network aspect. Blogs allow other people to comment, so we all commented on each other's blog to see how that works. The example I used was my post about collecting plastic, which shows the comments the others made :-)
I had also prepared material about Google Sites, which is for any other kind of website. Actually, using Google Sites is a bit easier than Google Blogger. But after four hours we were still on Blogger, so that one will have to wait for another opportunity.
